Its been fun to start developing a new style, a little different from my realism, using a combination of photography and digital painting. I’ve played with a cartoon style, trying to find my way, in creating this Christmas Pug design. Using the photograph I took of a friend’s Chinese Pug puppy, I created a digital drawing that I then painted in Photoshop Elements 5, adding a charming Santa hat to work with this festive season. I’ll show you my Dachshund designs next, which are also created in Elements 5, this time straight from my imagination, inspired by my furry ‘niece’ Maggie! These designs are featured at my Zazzle store, where dog lovers, horse lovers and animal lovers of many kinds will find unique gift items with my original art, photography and design.

I’ve found it to be a lot of fun designing with my pen and ink falcon’s wings. Adding wings to the back of a shirt and the Eagle image to the front makes for an interesting ‘flight of imagination’. Of course, the cool thing is a buyer could customize by changing the image on front or back, removing one, adding text…all sorts of things! After all, they could be Angel’s wings…
Since my daughter is very interested in birds of prey, I can’t help but think of these kinds of wing designs as perfect for falconers and falconry buffs.

In an attempt to consolidate my efforts with design, art and photography I am developing a new website, Ravenwood-Studio.webs.com.  I’m still tweaking and working on it.  The plan is to have a nexus from which a shopper/viewer/client can find all my various Print on Demand sites as well as a password protected, member-only gallery for my photography and commissioned art clients. At the moment I’m hovering at the edges of going Premium.  I haven’t determined yet if the benefits will outweigh the cost. But I am having quite a bit of fun (as well as frustration) on the learning curve.  Aside from regular outcries for guidance on the forum, my teenaged computer savvy kids are an immeasurable help!

The picture above is my (potentially) new logo…  Its weirdly hard to determine a logo, I find.

Customizables at Zazzle recently announced an Africa themed contest. Though I’m not generally confident enough to enter contests, this one caught my imagination and I chose to paint an image of an African Elephant in Photoshop Element 5, using my own photograph as source material.  I really enjoyed the challenge. In fact, I’ve begun another digital painting (this time of a friend’s Norwegian Fjord horse) already and have another one in mind.  I’m finding my way around PSE5, with the help of my daughter!  It’s so nice to paint in this virtual studio, where everything stays where it belongs and can (almost) always easily be found when needed!  At the moment I’m experiencing a little stress when it comes to my physical studio. Just too much clutter in this open concept house. I have no escape, no retreat to hide from the demands of the grind to get started….ah well…that’s a subject for another day. Hope you enoy my African Elephant!
